How to Install Flexitec 2020 Roofing System – Complete Guide from Buildon
Flexitec 2020 is a high-performance, liquid-applied GRP roofing system ideal for flat roofs, balconies, and walkways. Here’s how to install it step by step.
Start by ensuring the roof is clean, dry, and structurally sound. Remove any debris and check for damp or damaged areas. For porous surfaces like OSB3, concrete or aged felt, apply Flexitec Primer at 4–6 m² per litre and allow it to cure.
Next, mix the Flexitec 2020 resin with the correct amount of BPO powder hardener—typically 2% in moderate conditions, more in cold weather. Apply the resin at around 1.2 kg/m², then embed the 225g/m² chopped strand mat while the resin is still wet. Fully saturate the mat and roll out any air bubbles.
Once the base coat is cured (usually walkable in 30–60 minutes), apply a second resin-only top coat at 0.7 kg/m² if needed—especially for exposed areas or if you're aiming for a 20-year system. This top coat must be applied within 48 hours of the first layer.
In colder weather, use a Winter Accelerator; in hot weather, add a Summer Inhibitor to control curing speed. After application, clean tools with acetone and avoid foot traffic for 24 hours.
One 20kg tin covers approx. 16 m² (first coat with mat). Always order a little extra to account for overlaps and detailing.
